Quality, Adulteration and Traceability (QAT) Device
-
SafetySpect’s hand-held, battery-operated device identifies and monitors the molecular and biological composition of food, anywhere, with no chemicals or preparation.
-
Reducing $40 billion per year spent on food fraud and spoilage in the US.
QAT helps reduce waste and improve quality across the food chain
Benefits of QAT Testing

Maintains Traceability Across the Food Chain
-
Supports FSMA and FSIS compliance
- Including new FSMA rules for 2026
-
QAT compositional analysis integrates with other existing traceability methods
- Barcoes
- RFID
- Geotagging
- Blockchain
- Other cloud-based food tracking databases
-
Increases accountability across the food supply chain
- Identify problems in transportation and storage that accelerate spoilage
- Reduce waste with informed inventory management
- Understand the freshness and composition of incoming and outgoing goods
- Audit supplier claims
Preventing more than $10 billion in fish fraud in the US, QAT can identify species without DNA testing
Advanced, easy-to-use and immediate results for accountability across the food chain.
QAT Features
QAT uses fusion AI to combine 3 powerful techniques:
multispectral fluorescence
VIS-NIR reflectance
SWIR reflectance
to help you see invisible differences between samples or over time.
Measure food products – Instantly
Compositional analysis in the palm of your hand
-
Extensive spectral library of food products
-
Continual improvement of algorithms over time using machine learning
Detect and verify composition with a small hand-held unit
-
Measurements through plastic film
-
No physical sampling required
-
Non-destructive
Decision-level fusion AI and edge computing characterizes the sample
-
Immediate actionable information
-
Little training required
-
No need to wait for lab results
QAT versus other methods
*Food freshness packaging contains embedded indicators for spoilage markers such as pH, carbon dioxide, oxygen, ethylene gas, as well as temperature fluctuations. QAT can be used in combination with the intelligent packaging for unbiased assessment.
**TBARS is a measure used to assess the oxidative rancidity of fats in food products, particularly meat. TBARS measures the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and other reactive substances that are produced when fats undergo oxidative deterioration.
“Electronic noses detect volatile chemicals generated during the food spoilage process
